Following the earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş that resulted in tens of thousands of casualties, Japanese Earthquake Expert Yoshinori Moriwaki and businessman-contractor Fecri Koça took action and founded the Turkey Construction Contractor Application Control Union (TİMUKON Platform), which will provide training and inspection support to contractors and prevent application errors in construction. Koça, who said, “We will start a construction period in Turkey with Japanese technique,” added, “Let’s not forget that earthquakes are a reality of our country, and what is dangerous is not the earthquake, but buildings that are not earthquake-resistant and whose ground plan is poorly executed.”
Following the earthquakes that caused great destruction centered in Kahramanmaraş, the robustness of buildings remains a current topic. While contractors are at the center of the discussions, Japanese Earthquake Expert Yoshinori Moriwaki and businessman-contractor Fecri Koça pressed the button on an important initiative. Koça announced the establishment of the Turkey Construction Contractor Application Control Union (TİMUKON Platform), which will provide training and inspection support to contractors.
Municipal building control managers and building inspection company owners under the same roof
It was stated that the main goal of TİMUKON is to prevent application errors in constructions, thereby aiming to build earthquake-resistant structures similar to Japanese buildings. FGM Yapı Chairman of the Board Fecri Koça stated that discussions were held with contractors and that they initially united 900 contractors under the platform's roof, adding that the platform is open to all contractors.
Koça stated that, in addition to contractors, they also brought together the building control managers in municipalities across Turkey and the building inspection companies on this platform, and their goal is to reach 300 thousand contractors.
Japanese expert will share knowledge: “The country will have solid structures like Japanese buildings”
Fecri Koça said, "Earthquakes are a reality of our country, and let's not forget that what is dangerous is not the earthquake, but buildings that are not earthquake-resistant and whose ground plan is poorly executed. We believed that a platform where we can put forth our expertise for all of Turkey needed to be established due to the impact of the destruction caused by the earthquake disaster that affected 10 provinces centered in Kahramanmaraş."
Fecri Koça continued:
"Our goal with the TİMUKON platform, where we gathered 900 contractors, municipal building control managers, and building inspection company owners under the same roof, is to prevent application errors in constructions, thus ensuring that earthquake-resistant constructions, like Japanese buildings, are built in our country. We will organize regular workshops with TİMUKON members to eliminate application errors and determine practical application standards. At this point, Yoshinori Moriwaki will share his valuable knowledge with the entire group, along with our experienced Turkish contractors, to ensure that our country gains solid structures just like Japanese buildings. This group, established for healthier structures, will also share views on zoning changes and regulation amendments. Thus, much faster progress will be made through common sense."
